Last week, the FDA as well as CDC had warned people to stop eating the Honey Smacks manufactured by the famous Kellogg’s brand, which was indeed a bad news for all the cereal lovers but now, the regulators have warned the seafood lovers to stop eating crab meat.

As per a new report released by the CDC, crab meat which is being imported from the United States and Venezuela has a link to the multistate outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, the bacteria which can result in gastrointestinal issues if a person contracts it.

The crab meat which is being shipped from a distributer in Venezuela has been implicated already in 12 confirmed Vibrio infection cases, with most of the cases being reported in Maryland. Because of the symptoms, four people have been hospitalised till now.

As per the FDA, the crab meat does not necessarily look sketchy when looked for the first time and may smell, look and even taste the same despite of getting contaminated with the virus. However, if you have consumed enough quantities of it to have contracted the bacteria, then the common symptoms you would notice include cramping, diarrhea, nausea, fever, stomach ache, vomiting and in some cases, diarrhea accompanies by blood in the stool. The symptoms can show up within a day of getting infected.

Therefore, the FDA is now advising people to avoid eating the imported crab meat until they are sure that it has not been imported from Venezuela. Those people or restaurants that think or have doubts of them having contaminated crab meat are advised to get rid of it immediately and to wash and sanitise anything which may have come in contact with it.

If you have a doubt that you may have consumed contaminated crab meat unknowingly and are experiencing any of the Vibrio parahaemolyticus symptoms then immediately rush to a doctor and get yourself checked.
