People usually make their hands dry after washing it. The hand dryers that are installed in the bathrooms help to dry your hands but a study on them found that it is the most disgusting way as the blowers blow the bacteria all over your hands.
According to a study which was recently published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology is about the activities of the swirling cyclone of bacteria and other microbes. A team of researchers consisting of Luz del Carmen Huesca-Espitia, Gabrielle Joseph, Jaber Aslanzadeh and Peter Setlow from the University of Connecticut Health and Richard Finn and Thomas S. Murray from the Quinnipiac University bought the bacteria culture plates. They keep this plates in 36 men’s and women’s bathroom and exposed these plates to the air blower which gives hot air for 30 seconds. When the hot air hit the culture plates, on an average 18 to 60 colonies of bacteria grew per plate and these colonies include bacteria that cause diseases in human beings.
When these bacteria plates are exposed to the bathroom air for 2 minutes, it was observed that the growth of colonies happens 1 or less per plate without any hand dryers running. If you install HEPA or high-efficiency particulate air filters into the air dryers then it will help in reducing the number of bacteria by 4-times but it cannot remove all the bacteria that cause diseases.
Another study which was different from this study and was published in the Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences, two years ago, says that the array bacteria from the air blown form 15 air dryers show the same trend. Another study which was published in the Journal of Hospital Infection said that a person hand with lactobacilli in order to simulate poorly washed, contaminated hands and then the same hand is shown to a jet dryer. When the jet dryer works on this hands. 4.5 times more bacteria spread into the air and when a warm dryer is used then 27-times more bacteria are spread.
It seems that all the dryers are dangerous as they act as to help microbes increase their counts. The best way to keep your body clean by rubbing the hands, face and other parts of your body and then washing them.
