10 Athletes Starring in Movies

Have you ever thought that athletes who make a leap to movies are usually bodybuilders or famous in mainstream circles, such as J.J. Watt from Bad Moms?

Not just one but two World’s Strongest Men have appeared in the latest Kickboxer movie. So, below you will find the list of 10 strength athletes who starred in movies.

1. Kickboxer: Retaliation: Brian Shaw

The main antagonist Hafthor Bjornsson attracted much attention to Kickboxer: Retaliation when was cast as the main antagonist. However, there is a small role played by four-time World’s Strongest Man Brian Shaw, a role of Kurt Sloane, the protagonist.

Shaw appears in the film for about 39 minutes. And just 9 minutes later he appears again for Sloane to kick his butt. Shaw appears right after coach Mike Tyson tells “The strongest man doesn’t always win, but the smartest one does.”

2. Goldfinger: Harold Sakata

Goldfinger is the third and one of the best James Bond movies, the first Bond movie to be nominated for Oscar. Harold Sakata played the role of the weirdest henchman gimmick Oddjob. This man had an ability to throw a deadly razor-rimmed hat.

Harold Sakata is a Hawaiian pro wrestler, who started as the Olympic weightlifter. In the 1948 London Olympics, Harold won a silver medal for the United States by lifting a total of 410kg in his light-heavyweight division.

3. Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland: Mat Fraser

The producers of the Blue Mountain State probably are big fans of the CrossFit, because a small role in that movie of 2016 is played by three-time World’s Fittest Man Mat Fraser. The movie is a comedy about a factious college football team.

4. MacGruber: Mark Henry

Mark Henry appears at the 1-minute mark of MacGruber. It wasn’t the first role played by Mark, he was also noticed in other movies, such as Bouncer #2 and Tough Voice Guy. This guy has set the world record from a 903-pound lift in 1995 and still holds it. He was also a three-time U.S. National Weightlifting Champion and Olympic athlete in the mid -90s setting many records.

5. Wonder Woman: Brooke Ence

Brooke Ence is a CrossFit athlete, who played a role of an Amazonian warrior in Wonder Woman and Justice League.

However, most of her scenes were cut from the final film, as she said on her Instagram.

6. Transformers: The Last Knight: Eddie Hall

2017’s World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall appears in the most recent Transformers movie in the battle between the knights of King Arthur and a barbaric horde of Saxons. He was front and center in the crowd of whooping savages.

Hall confessed in his interview that he gets lots of film offers but all of them are not worthy of him. It looks like he wants to beat Hafthor Bjornsson in that aspect.

7. Heavyweight: Aleksey Lovchev

Russian weightlifter Aleksey Lovchev starred in a movie about a weightlifter dreaming of becoming a world champion. Before, Aleksey was banned for from international competition for many years.

8. Father of the Year: Elliot Storey

David Spade competed in a New England wife-carrying competition. However, Elliot Storey, a strongman and the 2016 North American Wife Carrying Championship winner appeared alongside Spade in the movie together with his wife Giana. They appeared in the 50-minute mark.

9. Chasing Solace: Zydrunas Savickas

Savickas played a role of a Siauliai Bar Guy, appearing in a tavern in the northern Lithuanian city. He appeared in the 17-minute mark. You can watch the whole movie on YouTube, too. Savickas is the four-time World’s Strongest Man and eight-time winner of the Arnold Strongman Classic.

10. Over the Top: Rick Zumwalt

This is one of the most favorite world’s movies of all time. Rick Zumwalt is a former arm wrestling world champion and the first strongman to perform in Cirque du Soleil. In that movie, he played the role of the main protagonist Bull Hurley.
