The boys from Arlington will come out fighting. In their last battle New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys, the Cowboys narrowly beat the Giants 27-26 to which the northerners replied with a convincing 27-30 defeat over the Cowboys.
The Giants will want to build on their Peyton Manning-led offensive season while reversing the abysmal defensive record that gifted an average 27.6 points per game to their competitors and resulted in a lowly 30th ranking overall. The Giants offensive play looks strong underpinned, as it is, by the impressive wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Manning/Beckham combination and ability to penetrate deep into the opposition half may be decisive given Beckham’s own impressive 13 touchdowns last season that ranks him second among NFL wide receivers. Manning himself produced a career best season totaling 4,400 yards of tosses and 35 touchdowns lifting him to No 2 in the NFL quarterback leader board. Beyond Beckham, the Giants’ thin lineup will place a massive expectation on Rashad Jennings whose performance last season, delivering 863 yards and an average 4.4-yard carry, makes the running back key and potentially decisive to the Giants performance. In defense, Jason Pierre-Paul will need to replicate his highly effective form from last season during which he notched up 26 tackles. The Giants will need more than the JPP to move the needle in defense. Will the additional investment and strength in their secondary add up to a more capable Giants defense this season? Time will tell.
